Deal Farm Biogas Public Consultation Ends – Next Steps 18.03.2022

South Norfolk District Council’s formal public consultation for the Deal Farm Biogas Section 73(a) application has now closed (09/03/22). The project team is now underway with analysing the comments received from the variety of stakeholders who submitted representations.

As part of the post-application process, our project team is undertaking a thorough coding analysis activity. This will seek to identify the key themes and concerns across the comments submitted; understand how often each theme or concern occurs; and assess potential mitigations and/or solutions to address these comments as part of the planning process.

The findings and outcomes of this analysis activity will be made available to the public and submitted to the local planning authority, so that the local community can be assured of the methodology used and the subsequent conclusions.

If the Section 73(a) application is approved, the Deal Farm Biogas AD plant is expected to be completed within 3 months. The delivery of the Deal Farm Biogas will generate the following benefits:

  • Create enough renewable gas to heat more than 4,000 homes
  • Provide improved storage clamps for farm crops and waste
  • Inject £2 million a year directly into the local economy
  • Create five new full time rural jobs in the green sector
  • Create numerous associated jobs
  • Reduce traffic movements through villages
  • Improve water and air quality by reducing the need for field muck heaps and crop storage
  • Decrease reliance on imported chemical fertilisers, by replacing them with natural fertilisers produced by the AD process
  • Reduce reliance on sugar beet as a crop
  • Capture an additional 7,000 tonnes of liquid CO2 through the addition of Carbon Capture Technology
  • Plant 1.5km of new hedgerow and tree line
  • Make a demonstrable / quantified net gain to local ecology

Despite the formal public consultation ending on the South Norfolk planning portal, we are continuing to engage with local residents, and would encourage anyone with feedback or questions to be in touch with the project team via info@dealfarmbiogas.co.uk or 0800 368 7312.
